Jo Coyne, Advanced Body Piercer

Hello! I’ve been piercing professionally since 2010 and worked with Aftershock Tattoo Company from 2012 until 2024. There are so many things I love about this profession. My work has been inspired by precision, the art of body jewelry, the opportunity to learn something new from each new piercing I do, and helping people overcome their anxieties. I attended the Association of Professional Piercers convention in Las Vegas twice, once in 2015 and again in 2018. I am always looking to evolve while maintaining the highest professional ethics to ensure that every piercing I perform is safe and successful. It's my goal to provide a gentle, guided piercing experience that helps you express your best self!

Kat Coyne, Body Piercer

Hi! I’ve been a piercing enthusiast since I got my first professionally done piercing in 2013. Since then, I’ve made it a goal to learn as much as I can, which has culminated into becoming a body piercer. I was hanging out at Aftershock Tattoo Company shadowing Jo since approximately 2014, working as her assistant, learning, and helping out at the front desk. I also attended the Association of Professional Piercers conference in 2018, and learned so much! I love the balance of instant gratification and patience that piercings require, and the self expression that can be achieved through different piercing placements and jewelry choices. Let’s do something awesome together!

Hawthorn is our newest adventure, built in collaboration with Olivia Scott of Unfreakish. For years we imagined a place that reflected our idea of an ideal studio, where appreciation and care for our clients comes first. Together, we wanted to create a place where tattoos and piercings share the same thoughtful, welcoming home. After years of dedication to our craft, we were able to manifest our dreams into reality! Hawthorn is built on genuine love for what we do, and every corner of our studio reflects that care.

The tattoo artists take ongoing education seriously, and regularly attend conferences and seminars to expand their knowledge of techniques, styles, and safety. Hawthorn is proud to have the only two certified eco tattoo artists in Kansas! They also exceed Kansas state standards of cleanliness and sanitation, even going so far as to use sterile water for every tattoo.

Our piercers also share that same commitment to learning and growth, having attended the Association of Professional Piercers seminars multiple times, and regularly attending seminars and classes to stay on the cutting edge of modern techniques, safety standards, and harm reduction in piercing. We use exclusively APP verified jewelry, including our implant grade titanium and solid gold collections. We are also trauma informed piercers, who take our approach to safe, consensual piercings very seriously. It’s our goal to ensure that every person that comes through feels supported and safe.

Our mission is simple: to help people celebrate their individuality through safe, precise, and artful piercings and tattoos. We believe that body art should be uplifting, encouraging, and full of compassion. We’ve crafted a space for art, self-expression, good conversation, and community, and it’s so much better than we could have ever dreamed.

Together, we created a cozy haven for body art enthusiasts of all kinds. Working alongside Olivia has allowed this dream to be larger than life! Her artistic vision has brought so much beauty and intention to this space.

We cannot wait to welcome you in and show you around!
