Minor Piercings
We are honored to be a part of your piercing journey! We feel like piercing is one of the few “coming of age” rituals left in our society. We also believe that every client deserves to feel informed, comfortable, and empowered while getting a new piercing. We are here to walk you through the whole process!
Start by reading through the above “Before You’re Pierced” section for information regarding healing times, and what to expect before and after your new piercing!
Healing takes time, patience, and consistent aftercare. Please consider:
Is your minor able to keep up with daily cleanings and aftercare?
Can they avoid unnecessary touching or changing jewelry before healing is complete?
Are they ready to follow instructions, or make necessary lifestyle changes (like avoiding pools if they get their new piercing in the summer, or changing sleeping habits)?
If you’re unsure, we are happy to answer any questions to help you decide the right timing.
Read on for more important information about our piercing services and necessary documents for minors.
Minimum Age Policy
We are able to serve clients aged 15+ for all services, including piercings, jewelry changes, downsizes, and consultations.
If you are seeking services for a younger minor, we highly recommend:
Ad Astra Piercing Co. in Lawrence, KS
Supernatural Body Piercing in Westport, KCMO
Wichita Piercing Company in Wichita, KS
These companies and piercers are wonderful, members of the Association of Professional Piercers, and can provide earlobe piercings as young as 7 with an appointment. Please check their websites for further information!
Necessary Documents for a New Piercing:
-
A parent or legal guardian must accompany the minor throughout the entire appointment, from check-in to check-out.
There is a notarized consent form that must be signed for each minor piercing procedure (explained below), and the same parent or guardian that signed the consent must be present at the piercing appointment.
-
We will need some form of state or federally issued identification from both the minor and the parent. This can be:
Drivers Licence
Learners Permit
State Issued ID
Passport
We are unable to accept photocopies, or digital images from a phone. Please make sure you bring the original! If it is expired, please make sure it is not expired by more than one year.
In some cases, we can accept a physical copy of a school ID from within the past two years, at the piercers discretion.
Please make sure that if you are using a school ID, that the name on the ID matches the name on the birth certificate. If their school ID has their chosen name instead of legal name on it, we will be unable to use that as identification (but we will always call someone by their chosen name!).
-
In all cases of piercing a minor, we will need their original or a certified copy of their birth certificate. This shows proof of relationship.
We are unable to accept or use photocopies, or digital images from a phone.
Kansas State law, and our studio policies, require us to confirm both identity and legal guardianship before performing any minor piercings. We are also confirming that your minor is at least 15 years old. This protects you, your minor, and our team. Even if we’ve seen you before, these documents must be presented at every minor appointment for a new piercing.
-
We do have notaries on staff each day that the piercers are present, so we can get notarized forms completed in house for your convenience! If this is the route you choose, there is no need to print off the notary form below. We got you!
If you’d prefer to complete your paperwork ahead of time, you may download the form below to have notarized before coming in. Please do not sign the form until you are in front of a notary!
If you choose to have the notary from filled out ahead of time, please make sure it is within one week of the piercing procedure taking place. We will be unable to accept notary forms that were signed more than one week prior.
-
In the case of adoption and fostering, please email the shop for more information. We are looking for finalized adoption paperwork, signed and sealed by the courts, and will request the original copies of the paperwork.
We are unable to allow step-parents to sign consent forms for their step-children, regardless of how long the step parent has been around in the life of the child.
We are also unable to provide piercings to minors who are simply in the custody of an adult. We are looking for true and finalized adoption paperwork, signed and sealed by the courts, to begin a new piercing.
